Privacy notice

Last updated October 14, 2026.

This notice explains what we collect when you use this site or write to us, what we do with it, and your rights. Plain English, on purpose.

1. Who is responsible

Racine Staub PLLC, practicing as Larkspire Law, 122 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013. Larkspire, Inc. is responsible for the free Honest Assessment and the Larkspire DIY tools. Write to contact@larkspirelaw.com with any question about your information.

2. What we collect

When you tell us what happened: your email, your name and phone number if you give them, the country and state you live in, what happened in your own words, and the details of each payment you made: when, how much, how you paid, which bank, exchange or wallet it went to, and any transaction hashes or wallet addresses. Also any files you upload, such as statements, screenshots or police reports. If you came from the Recovery Check or the Tax Check, your answers to it come with you. From the Tax Check that includes when you found out, whether anything is still pending, and the figures you gave its calculator, so that your assessment can answer the tax question.

When you visit the site: the technical information any web server receives, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. We do not use advertising trackers. We use no cookies except any strictly needed for the site to work. We count visits to the pages anyone can see, without cookies, and when you send a report we record which campaign or website brought you here.

Account numbers are optional. We ask for them only where they help trace your money, and we store them encrypted. We do not ask for, and ask you not to send, government ID numbers, passwords or seed phrases.

3. Why we use it

To read your inquiry, decide whether and how we can help, and reply to you. To keep a record of that correspondence, as lawyers are required to. To protect the site and the firm from abuse or fraud. To meet our legal and professional obligations.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing.

4. Who we share it with

Only with people and services that help us do the above:

If you later engage us, we may share information with banks, exchanges, law enforcement and co-counsel, but only as part of representing you and as set out in your engagement letter.

5. Where it is kept and for how long

Our providers store data in the United States. If you leave a report unfinished after giving us your email, we keep it for 30 days so you can come back to it, then delete it. We keep inquiries for as long as needed to reply and, if you do not engage us, for up to two years, so that we can answer if you come back or if a question later arises about what we advised. Client files are kept for the period New York requires. You can ask us to delete your inquiry sooner; see section 7.

6. Security

We use email and storage providers with encryption in transit and at rest, and we limit access to people who need it. Account numbers are encrypted again, separately, inside our database. No system is perfectly secure, and email in particular can be intercepted; if you would rather share something sensitive another way, tell us and we will arrange it.

7. Your rights

Whoever you are, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the address in section 1 and we will answer within 30 days. If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you these rights and the right not to be treated differently for using them; note that information we hold as your lawyers may be exempt from some of those rights, and we will tell you if that applies. If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, you have equivalent rights under the GDPR, and you may complain to your local data protection authority.

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.

8. Children

This site is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

9. Changes

We will update this notice when our practices change and show the date at the top. Material changes to how we handle your inquiry will be told to you directly if we have your email.
